Dj Kaznova The Interview.

I have been wanting to do this interview for quite a bit and I'm glad I finally got the chance to pick his brain, as well as shed a bit of light in the club lighting lit life of a dj.
I have to hand it to Kazi for doing what many town of Welkom didn't think was a possibility. He's a big dreamer with this head in the clouds and feet firmly placed on the ground. He's Level headed and grounded, not your everyday dj and I hope he remains so( Please stay away from open or closed gates)!

Where does Kaznova come from?

Born and raised in Welkom, Free State

where does this interest in DJ’ing and music come from? Be honest!!! Did you do it to get girls? LOL

LOL at 1st yeah the whole idea of getting groupies was the aim but that quickly changed I feel in love with music and wanted to share my skills with the world.

When you realised you had an interest and skill where did you go from there?

I decided to go study Music Production and Sound engineering at the Soul Candi Institute of Music in 2010

you did attend the Soul Candi Dj/Music academy right? How is the environment there? We all assume that you are in this carefree environment with parties and celebrities and all things fun.

Yes, the environment there was great, got to meet a lot of people mainly up and coming artists and celebs.

What are your thoughts on the stereotype that dj’s are promiscuous casanovas? (Not reference to your Dj name, hehe).

LOL, well we all are humans at the end of the day, the problem comes with the whole idea that EVERY DJ is promiscuous when it comes to girls which isn’t the case for some, like me.

Is it true that groupies throw their unmentionables (undies) at DJs? We need to know.

LOL, that hasn’t happened to me yet, but ask me in a few years and I will tell you.

Can people make a living out being a Dj? Have you bought your first bottle of Aces Champagne yet? Do share.

LOL, well I’m not into expensive bottles but Yes you can make a living but only if you make it your career and not just a hobby, if you have a good album out and singed to a good record company you are pretty much doing well (you won’t starve).

How are you dealing with the piracy situation?

It’s there and one thing I can say that I learnt at SCIM (Soul Candi Institute of Music) is that any publicity is good publicity in a way, it’s sad that its happening but it won’t just end anytime soon.

Who are your musical role models and why?

Dj Kent, Dada Life, Dirty South, DJ Black Coffee but to name a few – Their skills amaze me and at times they are my inspiration to do better.

I saw the StrongBow interview. What was that about?

I entered into the YFM/StrongBow South Africa Mega Star Competition and I made it into the finals were I came 2nd place.

What are your family sentiments towards your career path?

They support me in everything I do, I also study so I plan to have a backup plan IF I ever need it.

Aspirations? Where do you see yourself in the future?

The 1st South African producer/Dj on the Dj Mag top 100 dj’s of the world, Highest Paid Dj in the World and a successful Business Man

What are you going to do with your first R1 Million cheque?

Buy my mom a house and the rest I invest.

We all have the moments when we just reach a point where nothing is going right and we want to throw in the towel. Have you had such? What kept you motivated?

Yes a lot actually, it’s about remembering why you started at the 1st place and what you want out of it, we all have down days but my pick me up is listening to my favourite artists and picturing myself there because I have achieved certain things I never thought I would which means that there is hope if focus and faith are in place.

Let's get a bit more personal! A friend of mine once said that everyone knows not to date a Dj. Does being a Dj making it easier or more difficult for you to date?

LOL, it depends but honestly dating aint the problem that’s kinda easy finding the right girl with the right mentality who supports you and truly wants to be with you regardless of your career is hard.

Do you find that girls want to date because you are a Dj? How do you differentiate a groupie from a potential?

LOL, good question. Uhmm in my experience there’s a certain way a groupie would act towards you than a potential, for instance if a girl is forever talking about you in regards to the people you meet and the places you go to all the time to me she’s a suspect.

What's a day like in your life?

Pretty normal, I study/produce/watch series/ watch movies/ meet with friends on a weekday schedule on weekends that’s where I find myself doing the total opposite if I am booked for a event that’s outside of JHB I travel there and go BUCK, I’m a very quiet guy but when out I go crazy.

10 Parting Shots. Just one word answers
1. Favourite Drink: Southern Comfort and Lime + Lemonade
2. Pet Hate: I hate all pets, I don’t see myself owning one anytime soon.
